Human rights violations and state-sponsored violence marked Siddhartha Shankar Ray's regime. Post the Emergency in 1975, the state saw a new Chief Minister and CPI(M) evolving as a formidable force in the state.

5. Buddhadeb Bhattacharya O Mamata Bandopadhyay

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's vision of rapid industrialization backfired, and Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee came to power. The state witnessed the rise of BJP as a major political force but they were eventually outnumbered politically.
