Franchises came more to the fore, with Lego entering into a mega licensing deal with Star Wars, and Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles selling merchandise on the back of TV and movies, while oddities like Furbies, Pokémon and Tamagotchi were also hits.
