Filming took place around Whitefish Falls, near Espanola, and scenes were shot in Birch Island and Manitoulin Island in 1969. Lois Maxwell portrayed "Nancy Williams," a widow and mother living with her two teenagers, Billy and Hanna, in a secluded Lake Huron cove. Maxwell, famous for her role as Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond films, anchored the drama. The series focused on the adventures of Billy and his Ojibway friend Pete in the northern Ontario wilderness.
