What if you love your child, but are unhappy in your role as a mother? Spijtmoeders is a documentary film about mothers who, if they could make the choice again, would rather not be mothers. Three women talk about their struggles with motherhood, the shame and guilt they feel, and the high expectations society places on them. The fear of judgment from others is great: what if people think that they are not a good mother, that they do not take good care of their child? What if they think they don't love their child? The mothers are represented by hyper-realistic dolls, but their voices are real.

When patriarch Jack Praal is confronted with his biggest fear and his youngest son Dirk is linked to the death of a woman, the family gets trapped into a web of intrigue and betrayal. During the course of five weeks the series follows the family members who put their own interests aside in order to save everything. But not everyone is playing a fair game, which seems to result in the inevitable downfall of the once so close Praal family.

In every season, there is a girl who gets herself into trouble through sexting.

Viewers are taken into places usually closed to the public, from aircraft carriers and the Pentagon to the Betty Ford Center and backstage Las Vegas showrooms. The show first aired on ABC as occasional specials before becoming a regular series on A&E.
