BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2019 took place May 25th-26th at Stewart Park in Middlesbrough, UK. It is the biggest freed ticketed music event in Europe.

Hereford’s own Ellie Goulding topped the BBC Sound of 2010 list. In the same year she won the Critics Choice BRIT Award. Her presence on Radio 1 started with Under the Sheets, soon singles like Starry Eyed were getting airplay and even the dubstep remix treatment from artists like Jakwob. In the Summer of 2010 she took to the stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend to perform an eclectic selection of songs from her debut album "Lights".

In March 2020, Arlo Parks was on her first headline tour of the UK when Covid-19 brought the country to a halt. Her remaining shows were cancelled and no longer able to perform, she went back to living at home with her parents in London. She began to grieve for the year she had lost, sometimes not leaving the house for days. Until, she decided she needed to change her perspective. Determined not to be defeated by the circumstances, Arlo Parks put a plan together and began writing her debut album, connecting with other artists and fans online and as restrictions began to ease, she flourished even further. She collaborated with some of her favourite singers and performed in two Live Lounges in lockdown. She crafted album artwork and even went to sing on a stripped back Pyramid Stage in Glastonbury. If there is anyone who has made the most of out lockdown, it is sure to be Arlo Parks.

Featuring musicians Annie Haslam, Michael Dunford, Jon Camp, John Tout, and Terry Sullivan, this classic lineup of progressive rock band Renaissance performs songs from albums Ashes are Burning, Turn of the Cards, Scheherazade and Other Stories, and Novella, including "Carpet of the Sun", "Mother Russia", and "Can You Hear Me?" in a stripped-down rock band arrangement, at the Golders Green Hippodrome, London, for the BBC Two series, Sight and Sound In Concert.

The biggest cultural export from Japan in recent years has been the phenomenal rise of Babymetal; 3 school age girls fusing Metal with J-Pop, who recently performed a sold out concert in front of 12,000 fans at Wembley Arena. Dev heads to Tokyo to learn more about the pop-culture that’s spawned the band. He enters the world of traditional J-Pop idols (including Katy Perry endorsed Kyary Pamyu Pamyu), explores the Japanese rock scene (with Crossfaith), learns about kawaii fashion in Harajuku (Tokyo’s equivalent to Camden Market) and has a wild karaoke night with a band called Ladybaby.
